This stained glass mosaic picture of a hare gazing up at the sun will look great when it's finished. Here the pieces are being glued onto the glass backing.

Stained glass mosaic day on Thursday 18th March- postponed due to lockdown

Sorry, but because we’re still in lockdown this course has had to be postponed.

Come for a stained glass mosaic day on Thursday 18th March, because it’s beautiful and eco friendly and also the course will be Covid secure. It’s a great way to make environmental art from glass offcuts. So it makes the perfect creative staycation in our beautiful village of Chilham, near Canterbury, Kent.

What does it cost?

A day’s course including all materials, lunch and refreshments costs just £90 per person. Also, there are no single supplements.

What’s stained glass mosaic?

Also known as glass appliqué, it’s a style of glass art that uses offcuts of stained glass that would otherwise be wasted. Instead you get to transform them into a work of art to take home and treasure.

There’s more information here.

What can I make?

In a day, you can make a panel of around A5 size, with an almost unlimited number of pieces. You don’t need to be able to cut glass; if your hands aren’t strong enough, you can still make something beautiful from our huge range of precut pieces of glass.

Is there an age limit?

Under-18s (and over 80s too!) can take part, if they’re safe handling sharp pieces of glass. Under-18s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult who’s also taking part.

Where are you and how do I get there?

We’re on the A252 in Chilham, midway between Ashford (Kent), Canterbury and Faversham. We’re a 15 minute stroll from Chilham railway station (for services between London, Canterbury & Ramsgate; change at Ashford if you’re catching the high speed train out of London). Chilham is also served by a number of buses from Ashford and Canterbury and is a short way from national cycle route 18.

If you’re coming to enjoy the area for several days, do bring your walking shoes & / or your cycle. Chilham is on the North Downs Way, a long distance footpath with stunning views, & has lots of other walking and cycling routes too.

What makes it Covid secure?

We’re limiting the class to a maximum of 4 people to allow for social distancing. All equipment and contact surfaces are sterilised between classes. You’ll have a whole table to yourself (though you can share with a member of your household). We’ll give you your own grozing pliers, cut running pliers, glass cutter, stationery etc. to use for the day. Fabric towels have been replaced with paper towels for the forseeable future and there are 4 sinks available for hand washing as well as plenty of alcohol gel.

You’ll need to bring a face covering in case you need to come within 2m of anyone else (apart from any family members who you come with), & there’s no cancellation charge if you have to stay at home to self isolate. If a lockdown means that we have to postpone the course, you’re welcome to reschedule or request a full refund.
