Covid secure fused glass class in progress

Glass fusing spring bank holiday 2 day experience for beginners and improvers, £295 per person

Join us on Sunday 5th & Monday 6th May 2024 for a glass fusing spring bank holiday 2 day experience in our spacious Kent studio nestled in the beautiful Kent Downs.

Make your very own glass creations to keep; all tools and materials provided (and lunches too!).

Come and explore warm glass with us, using both float glass and then Bullseye fusing glass. A generous quantity of materials, lunch and refreshments are included. You’ll impress yourself with what you can create! Artistic ability is useful but by no means essential.

If you’ve not played with glass before, don’t worry. We’ll teach you and soon have you cutting with confidence. You can even make something beautiful without cutting glass at all!

If you’ve already done some fusing, this is your opportunity to try something a bit more advanced or perhaps to learn some new techniques.

We have a wide range of colourful sheet glass, frit, stringers (think “glass spaghetti”) and more. Come and be spoiled for choice.

What can I make?

You can make coasters, small dishes, window hangings or even art for your garden. The choice is yours; the smaller the items, the more you can make. (Why not have a look at our Facebook page & see what our previous visitors have made? Note that some of them are regular visitors, especially the people making huge things!)

What about lunch?

Lunch is included in the cost of each day, as are refreshments & parking. (Accommodation isn’t included, but do have a look at our “where to stay” page for some local suggestions.)

Do I have to pay extra for glass?

No, it’s all included, unless you want to go wild and make something huge!

On the weekly classes, students pay for their own glass, while on this glass fusing spring bank holiday workshop the cost of the glass is included for a coloured item up to 34 x 17cm (or several smaller things) plus float (window) glass for your first (practise) item. If you want to make something bigger, you can just pay for the extra materials. But if you’re thinking of making a cooker splashback, do give us a ring!

Can I take my glass creations home with me?

Yes, but not on the day. Your glass will be fused after your course & will be in the kiln for at least 24 hours. After fusing, you can come & collect it or it can be posted to you (this typically costs around £9 depending on its size & weight- we pack it well to ensure that it arrives in the right number of pieces!).

My partner isn’t very creative- what can they do?

They’re welcome to book a place too and surprise themself with what they can achieve. But if they’d rather do something else while you’re creating your glass masterpieces, fear not. We’re close to Faversham (with its interesting quayside, brewery and independant shops), Canterbury (with the cathedral, old city walls, shops, castle ruins, St Augustine’s Abbey and more shops than you can throw a stick at) and Ashford (with a selection of pubs, cinemas, 2 garden centres & a “designer” outlet).

More locally, Chilham itself is a beautiful medieval village (OK, so I live here and might be a bit biased!). It’s on the Pilgrims’ Way and North Downs Way long distance footpaths and is awash with vineyards. Your partner might like to bring their walking boots & a map or their cycle and lycra (for the cycle paths) and explore the scenery before enjoying a well earned pint of local beer in one of our village’s two historic hostelries, the White Horse (in the medieval square) or the Woolpack (at the bottom of the hill towards the station).

Make the most of your spring bank holiday in Chilham. You’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere prettier…
