This stained glass mosaic picture of a hare gazing up at the sun will look great when it's finished. Here the pieces are being glued onto the glass backing.

Stained glass mosaic eco friendly taster day in the Kent Downs

Come for a stained glass mosaic eco friendly taster day in our glass studio. It’s nestled in the rural Kent Downs AONB, surrounded by Taittinger’s vineyards.

Stained glass mosaic is a beautiful and eco friendly craft using the pieces of glass left over from stained glass making. No glass cutting skills are needed- you can use the pieces of glass as they are. The trickiest bit will be choosing from the vast range of shapes, colours and textures on offer!

At this time of year it’s great to do something creative in a snuggly warm studio. You’ll be making something beautiful from what some glass artists would throw away! Instead you’ll get to treasure it for years to come.

Stained glass mosaic is a great way to make environmental art from glass offcuts. It makes the perfect creative staycation too, in the beautiful village of Chilham, near Canterbury, Kent.

What does it cost?

Your day’s stained glass mosaic eco friendly taster day includes all materials, lunch and refreshments. Better still, it’s the cheapest course that we run, at only £95 per person. There are no single supplements either.

What’s stained glass mosaic?

Also known as glass appliqué, it’s a style of glass art that uses offcuts of stained glass that would otherwise be wasted. Instead you get to transform them into a work of art to take home and treasure. Working on a background of transparent glass, the light will be able to flood through your finished creation, painting your home with ever changing colours and patterns of light as the sun moves.

There’s more information here.

What can I make?

In a day, you can make a panel of around A5 size, either squarish or a long, slim suncatcher with a hanging loop. You can use an almost unlimited number of pieces compared to stained glass. You don’t need to be able to cut glass; we have a huge range of pieces of cut glass in all sorts of colours, shapes and textures.

Is there an age limit?

Under-18s (and over 80s too!) can take part, if they’re safe handling sharp pieces of glass. Under-18s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult who’s also taking part.

Where are you and how do I get there?

We’re on the A252 in Chilham, midway between Ashford (Kent), Canterbury and Faversham.

We’re a 15 minute stroll from Chilham railway station (for services between London, Canterbury & Ramsgate). Change at Ashford if you’re catching the high speed train out of London. Chilham is also served by a number of buses from Ashford and Canterbury and is a short way from national cycle route 18.

If you’re coming to enjoy the area for several days, why not bring your walking shoes & / or your cycle? Beautiful Chilham village is on the North Downs Way, a long distance footpath with stunning views, & has lots of other walking and cycling routes too.

This course has now expired but this link (https://www.creativeretreatsandholidays.co.uk/booking/ ) will take you to our calendar of upcoming events.
