This fused glass platter and small glass dishes are an example of what you can make using glass fusing techniques.

Glass fusing experience for beginners and improvers

Whether you’ve never tried a fused glass course before, or whether you’re looking to learn new kiln forming skills, this is the course for you.

10am – 5pm each day; £190 per person including materials.

This two day course in glass fusing art takes place in our glass studio in Chilham and is the perfect opportunity to get an in depth experience in glass fusing. You’ll start with float (window) glass for your first creation (one student made an amazing glass motorcycle!) before moving on to work with Bullseye fusing glass.

Try both full fusing and tack (contour) fusing, working with sheet glass, frit, stringers, confetti and our very own “funky frit balls”. Learn why you can’t just combine any old glass in the kiln, & how come glass is such an amazingly versatile material to work with.

Techniques that you might like to try include kiln carving, use of inclusions, deliberate creation of bubbles, use of glass enamel paints & experimenting with iridescent glass. Dichroic glass is also available to buy if required, for the ultimate in glassy bling!

What can I make?

You can make flat items such as coasters, window hangings, bunting & / or 3D objects such as bowls or stand-up decorations. Things made the first day might be ready for you to take home on the second day (though this depends if the kiln is cool enough to open & isn’t guaranteed).

What’s included in the price?

Materials, fusing, slumping, refreshments and lunch are included; dichroic glass can be purchased if required.

Your glass will be fused after your course and can be collected or posted to you (this typically costs around £7 depending on its size & weight, i.e. how much you’ve made!).

What happens next?

You’re welcome to come back for another course or to join us for regular weekly sessions if you live close enough. Some of our students go on to buy kilns of their own. We accept no responsibility if you get totally addicted to glass 🙂
