Join us for a wonderful weekend of festive Tiffany copper foil stained glass in our lovely studio. We’ll introduce you to the wonderful world of stained glass (or give you the chance to expand your skills if you’ve done it before). It’s a great craft to try if you’re looking to try something different. In honour of the season, you’ll have the option to make something for Christmas, Hannukah or simply a wintry scene if you like.

This Tiffany copper foil stained glass weekend experience is perfect both for beginners and those with some previous experience that they’d like to build on. Make the most of your weekend with us. You can choose whether to make a Tiffany stained glass suncatcher or seasonal decoration (e.g. an angel, a Star of David, a bell, a penguin- if that’s more your thing!) or a more regularly shaped panel (e.g. a square, circle or rectangle). If your decoration is simple, you might have time to make more than one.

What’s involved?

If you’re new to stained glass, we’ll also teach you to cut and shape glass with confidence.

Next you get to design your own stained glass cartoon (template), so your creation will be completely unique. (If this sounds scary, you can bring a few pictures of designs that you’ve seen elsewhere, to help you, as the student in our photo did.) In two days you’ll have time to make a  hanging decoration, a suncatcher or a panel containing up to ten pieces of glass- it takes longer than you think!

Then choose from our wide range of coloured glass & cut it to size and shape before learning the “Tiffany” technique of applying copper foil. This is really relaxing when you get the hang of it.

You’ll then solder your panel together. You can choose whether to leave the solder its natural silvery colour or use a patina to make it coppery again or black.

What will I take home with me?

You will choose whether to make a Christmas, Hannukah or other seasonal decoration, a suncatcher or a decorative panel up to 20 x 20cm in size, containing up to ten pieces of glass. The shape is entirely up to you. People with previous experience can make a more complex panel or something with more pieces. Past students have made some beautiful swans; landscapes and sunsets are always popular too. Last year saw a number of Father Christmas style gonks emerge from the classes as well as a heavenly host of angels.

What’s included in the cost?

The cost includes materials and use of all necessary tools, together with lunches and refreshments both days. Special diets can be catered for if you let us know in advance.

Can I bring my children?

Sorry, but the lead in the solder means that this course isn’t suitable for under 18s (or pregnant ladies either). Do have a look at our glass applique / stained glass mosaic courses or our glass fusing courses instead, as these are lead free. Thanks.
