DESCRIPTION:Join us for a glass appliqué experience day in the Kent Downs AONB on Sunday 24th October. After the year & a half that we’ve just had, it’s the perfect day out to lift your spirits and to look forward to. The trees of the Kent Downs landscape around us will be taking on tanned hues of copper, red and brown, while the neighbouring vineyards settle down to a few months’ rest. So why not treat yourself & / or a few friends to a day learning a creative new hobby in our studio nestled in the beautiful rural village of Chilham.\nWhy glass appliqué?\nGlass applique is a great craft for both beginners and improvers in glass art and is very environmentally friendy, as it uses the pieces of glass left over from making stained glass panels. (That’s also why it’s our least expensive course!) Come and make something beautiful whilst doing your bit for the planet. Accurate glass cutting isn’t needed, so it’s pretty easy too!\nWhat is glass appliqué?\nGlass appliqué is also known as stained glass mosaic. The difference between this and regular mosaic is that you work with coloured glass on a background of clear glass, which lets the light shine through. The pieces of glass don’t need to fit accurately together, so it’s great for beginners and people with weak hands. If you’re a seasoned stained glass artist on the other hand, you’ll find it a brilliant way to use up your small offcuts of coloured glass. Here’s an example by Catherine Van der Woerd in the USA- not made here, but still very pretty!\nWhat do I need to bring with me?\nWe supply virtually everything that you need. Just bring yourself, perhaps a friend, some closed-in shoes, your glasses (if you need them) and a smile!\nWhether it’s your first time cutting glass or whether you’ve cupboards full of art glass waiting for a new use, come and join us.
